The pencil is moved in and out by moving the rosey gold band along the Niello case, and it features a small jump ring for wear on a chain so you have something to jot your notes down with to hand! Niello is an ancient technique, similar to enamelling, but using a black mixture of powdered silver, copper, lead, and sulphur.
